More BOOKs...

Hey guys!

To those who are going to Seremban in particular, Joe has taken the effort to get a list of books tt would b necessary/useful for our clinical..the list is as below:

EMO:

  1. Davidson's --> RM65
  2. Kumar & Clark --> RM93
  3. Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine --> RM79
  4. Oxford Handbook of Clinical Specialties --> RM70
  5. Davidson's handbook --> RM40
  6. Bailey and Love Surgery --> RM170
  7. Burkitt's Essentail Surgery (problems, diagnosis and management) --> RM110
  8. Browse's (symptoms and signs of surgical disease) --> RM70

KAMAL:

  1. Davidson's --> RM99
  2. Kumar & Clark --> RM99
  3. Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine --> RM55
  4. Davidson's handbook --> RM75
  5. Bailey and Love Surgery --> RM155
  6. Burkitt's Essentail Surgery (problems, diagnosis and management) -->RM95
  7. Browse's (symptoms and signs of surgical disease) --> RM50

So the books that are in BOLD are the cheaper ones (compared to the other place)... But I personally prefer books from EMO bcs i have VERY BAD experiences buying from Kamal (books worn out very fast). Anyone else has met with similar problems?? Anyways u guys can think abt it and I will probably collect money and place down orders first day in seremban!

Don't know which to choose? basically seniors would recommend to get:

  1. Kumar&Clark or Davidson's (this will be our go to book for the whole internal med rotation whn we need to read up on something)
  2. OHCM or Davidson's handbook (for quick reference during ward rounds! u won't go wrong getting OHCM but we got a very good deal for the Davidson's handbook n its a really good book as well!)
  3. Bailey's is recommended for surgery rounds (famous surgical book, wont go wrong getting it!). No 6&7 was recommended by Henry from EMO (he says a lot of seniors come to get those books as well).
-JOE-

To those who are off to Seremban:

1.if u need a labcoat u can FB msg Joe ur size ASAP as he will be going there soon to make the
purchase

2.have u signed in our FB group yet? If not please do so at : http://www.facebook.com/groups/183624611693159/

anyways enjoy ur remaining holidays n see u peeps in seremban..

Loves,
Geena...

Library Hours Extended

Dear students of IMU,

As per your requests, the SRC and the Library dept. are glad to inform you that with effective from 1st August ‘2011 the IMU Library Collaborative Study Area (CSA) will be open till 12:00 a.m. on weekdays.
However, we still have to cross a few bumps before we can make it permanent. Yes, everyone, it’s still temporary and on a TRIAL period till the25th of august ‘2011. If we are able to follow the criteria given to us by the Library dept. till the end of the trial period, then of course the library CSA will continue to be open till 12:00 a.m.
The criteria are as listed below:

1) All books are to be returned by 10 pm
2) No borrowing of books after 10 pm
3) No books or MMS models should be misplaced or damaged during the trial period
4) A minimum of 20 students on average should be present in the CSA.
5) Last but not least, the most important issue:
Students should walk safely while walking back to Vista or their cars after 12:00 am
and should not get mugged on the way during the trial period.

If any of these 5 Criteria are breached or not fulfilled (especially the last 3), then the whole thing is KAPUT!! In other words, library CSA will only be open till 10 p.m., we will never be given a chance to increase library operation hours in the future ever again.
Furthermore, the QSA and MMS section will be closed after 10 p.m. and only 2 part-time student librarians and a security guard will be overseeing the library till midnight after 10 p.m.
The Reserve Collection Area will be out of bounds during the time 10 – 12 also.

So, students of IMU, the SRC has once again listened to your concerns and have acted upon them. This time, it is up to you to keep this newly granted opportunity and to not mess it up in anyway, if you would like the library CSA to be open till 12:00 a.m. on weekdays.
Also I would like to stress on the importance on student safety once they leave the library at midnight, since that is the main reason the library dept. is concerned about. Please try to travel in packs or groups. Guys I need not remind you, now’s the chance to jump in and walk those pretty ladies off to safety :P.

Anyways, thank you for your support extended to us in this matter and with your help I believe that in the near future we can make more exceptional changes to the library to benefit your needs. Your SRC president, Simran Singh will be visiting most of the batches to announce more details regarding this matter.
Thank you and have a great time everyone!

SRC Secretary

Batch Rep Resignation

Greetings fellow batchmates! :)

Wow, can't believe that holidays are already half over! I do hope everyone is getting the time that they always wanted to sleep in, exercise, laze around, catch up on TV series, etc. to just rejuvenate after one hell of a semester 5. So, let's return back to my initial purpose of writing this post.

Official Resignation

I have already announced it on the Seremban Clinical School batch facebook group, but this is to just officialize it; also I found some parts of my post would also be directed to those PMS-ing thus hope you will bear with my "formality". :P But, I have nominated Joe and Teegeena as this batch's future batch reps (male and female respectively) and so far I have not heard any negative comments about it. Thus, I will proceed on with slowly transferring over responsibilities to the elected to make the transition as smooth as possible. However, I also maintain my word that nominations are still open so those that would want the job for any reason, feel free to voice out. If this happens, I will immediately start a voting process and the one with the most votes will participate in my hand-over immediately following thereafter. Otherwise, I presume the batch has no other willing bodies and shall congratulate Joe and Geena on August 1st 2011 when they are officially the "go-to people" for everything that you would normally address to the batch reps. I hear-by, formally declare my resignation as batch rep. (:

The Reason

It was a hard decision to come to, trust me. The thought was in my mind since the end of semester 4, but I decided to hang on for the final semester for pre-clinical as things were starting to get really busy with Convo Mag, Mock PMS Matching, etc. I felt that it would be wrong to just leave in the midst of so many things going on and knowing probably no one would want the job seeing it is semester 5 and all. :P So, what finally brought me to do it was because this halfway mark through medical school helped me come to the realization that I do want to move on from this job and try something different. It has been my utmost pleasure to be able to serve every one of you but quite honestly i'm very tired from the job. It seems to be quite easy from the outside to many, but there are many things behind the scenes faced that fails to ever see light. I think that I have tried my very best to do what I was supposed to do and came to the conclusion it is time to let others have this chance to grow from such an experience as I have grown from it. It was very tough to let go, but I hope being batch rep doesn't define who I am to you all. I hope over the 2.5 years you have gotten to know me a bit better than just "he is our batch rep!" because I did try to go beyond by duties several times to let you all know a bit about me personally. :)

Words of Gratitude

I want to express many thanks to you all for allowing me to be your batch representative for the past 2.5 years. I have never once taken for granted all the support and positive encouragement you have given to me over the years and it was one of the reasons I was able to carry on doing what the batch needed every time. It has been a good growing experience and it was only made possible because of the very people that constituted this batch. I know this sounds slightly tacky, but I can say i mean ever word of it as i have never really been know for my semantics anyways. :P It has been so awesome to meet most of the batch and know all of you (I apologize for those I never got to know) but you all definitely made our batch one of the more colourful batches. That is one of the things I will remember about this batch for sure and I apologize if I have ever offended anyone along the duration of my tenure or come short of my responsibilities. I have given my best foot forward and thanks to all of you for making my job easier with your cooperation all this while. I could not have been asked to represent a better batch of people. :)

Do enjoy the holidays well and all the best for those going overseas for PMS and for those that are going to Seremban - see you all there! :)

Your "neighborhood batch rep",
Eldwin

PMS Matching Results (Update)

Greetings fellow batchmates!

Quite a number of people have asked me about the PMS results already, so I figured it would be best for me to just put it up on the batch blog. As of last Wednesday (18 May 2011), I received confirmation from Miss Imelda that the PMS matching results will be ready by the end of May. That may mean some time next week, or if it's really cutting close to the deadline it could even fall on any day of our first 2 days of EOS5. I understand some rather have it before and some rather have it after exams, but i really apologize because I can't do anything about the timing at all. Dr JPJ had set a deadline for the AAD to finish the Matching Results by end of the month so they are all scrambling to finish it by that deadline, pity her too because I know she is trying her best. So the date of release might not be on everyones' "good side", but there is really nothing we can do about it..hope you all can still focus on preps for exams at hand. :)

Cheers,
Eldwin

P.S. As soon as I know anything, the first thing I will do is update the blog and FB it. You have my word!

M109 MSK/CNS Summative

Greetings M109!

I hope ya'll had a nice transient rest today after the summative paper in the morning. Anyways, good or bad let's forget that small fish which got away and focus on the even BIGGER fish i.e. EOS5 yeah? XD

Tay and I spent a few hours after summative to type up as much of the questions which we could recall for our summative paper in the morning. It is not perfect, but we did the best to our recollection capabilities so you can find it at the link below and saving it as a word document is as easy as clicking file --> save as. Maybe you will find it helpful to remind you about the style of how they ask, or to take into account "supposedly whatever comes out for summative WON'T come out for EOS" or maybe you just want to keep it so you can pass it on to your juniors. Whatever the purpose is, we have done it for you so please make use of it if you may. :)

IMU Alumni Registration - IMPORTANT

I hope the title of this post has caught your eye! :)
So this is basically what's going on.

The convo mag committee has been working very hard to produce a yearbook that is
as awesome as it will be memorable for you all, however the price quotes aren't exactly as low as we would like it to be. So we are finding ways to raise funds so that we can subsidize for the cost of the yearbook at least by a bit. So here is my appeal, apparently Miss Asnah said that if the ENTIRE batch successfully registers as an IMU Alumni, we will get RM1k towards our batch fund and that translates into slightly cheaper convo mags for those interested in purchasing! Now, the procedure is simple and only takes 5 minutes and no don't worry there are no strings attached so I hope as a batch we can make this happen. Because, we can only receive the money if EACH AND EVERY SINGLE ONE of you registers and (yes they have a way to check).

So here's how! :)

2. Click "sign up as a new member"
3. Fill in the form and press submit!

See, it really did only take about 5 minutes right? ;) Well, thanks so much for your cooperation really hope this works. And one more thing, if anyone has any cool ideas or knows any possible sponsors do let me know via email at Medt109@gmail.com - I would greatly appreciate it! Because, worst come to worst convo mag committee might just organize a car wash after EOS5 or something. :P

Cheers,
Eldwin

EOS5 Exam Prep Materials

Greetings M109!

I tried my best to compile as maany EOS5 EXAM-RELATED materials as possible and thank you for all those that also contributed to the pile of questions that we have in this folder. In this folder you will find:

****

1. PYQ
2. FLM (sem 4 + sem 5) - for OSPE
3. Goodies (which has our batch video and batch photos in high resolution!)

There is an additional folder which I have created entitled "CBL & IMS Presentations", so my last simple request is for those leaders in charge of your presentations, or whoever (also can) to just leave a copy of their presentations in that folder because it may be helpful to some of your batchmates.

****

WHERE?
Ans. Check it out at any one of the 3 computers at the "island" situated next to the magazine section latest by 1030AM , WED 4 MAY 2011. Take note, I will be removing the folder by next Monday, so take it while you can. I don't want to get "caught" disseminating any "contraband".

This is really as much as I can do as we all need to focus on exams, so if any1 really needs the CBL/IMS presentations would be best to just approach the group involved personally because at this point i'm sure most will be more than satisfied if they can finish their lecture notes (as there are so many!)

With that I wish every1 the very best for summative and EOS5!

Eldwin

Kampung Angkat Project

SRC and Community Service Club are organising a Kampung Angkat Project involving a survey(May 21st), health screening(July 10th) and donation drive. We are in need of about 10 more volunteers for the survey part and possibly donation drive. The details are all on the SRC blog atimusrc.blogspot.com so could you please inform your respective batches of this and tell them to check out the blog if they are interested. I understand some of you are on study break right now so maybe you can post on your Facebook pages or something? These 10 spots will be filled on first come first serve basis so please do inform them ASAP.

We also require 2 more pharmacy students to speak about vitamins. Refer to the blog for further details.

Thank you.

EOS5 Exam Preps

It's 5 weeks and counting down! It is getting down to the crunch time and I know as it exams nears less people will be around in lectures, so do continue checking up on the batch blog so that when I do need to get information out to you all it is available to you all. I could always go the FB route, but not every1 has FB and I don't have EVERY1's facebook either. :D

So I want to make an appeal. I'm currently gathering any/all EOS5 related exam prep material (eg. pyq, mock osce ques, mms slides, etc.) for you all. It is my hope that as a batch, we pool our resources together and share whatever we have with each other. Because what you have that you MAY NOT USE or FIND USEFUL, others might and that could mean the difference between passing and failing. It is not mandatory, but out of the spirit of being M109 together for nearly 5 whole semesters, this is the one last thing we can do together collectively!

SO yes, for those who have ANY ques whatsoever or any material that might be helpful for the interest of EOS5 (meaning sem 3-5 materials, more emphasis on sem4/5) do send it to the batch email at medt109@gmail.com or if it's too big please SMS me or approach me with a pendrive so i can copy and paste immediately. I will start collecting ASAP, but i required your cooperation! By next week, I will have created a batch folder where every1 can access each and every file which I have collected this week. I hope this helps any small bit it may, at least.

All the best studying!

Cheers,
Eldwin

Re-elections

Dear Batch reps,

This is Nestor Rukmal, your newly elected SRC secretary for 2011/2012. I find it with great pleasure to greet you all for the first time and hope to see you all play a very active role in the coming year alongside the SRC for the student's welfare
First and foremost, a very big thank you to you and your batches for taking part in the elections this year and voting.

For all those batches which are eligible for the SRC elections we have re-elections going on for 2 posts. Social concerns and Cultural & Religous reps.
The timeline is as follows:-

12/04/2011 - deadline for handing in applications (tomorrow)
14-15/04/2011 - voting.

I please urge, those batch reps to the eligible batches to encourage your batch mates to compete in the elections this week and to make an announcement about it tomorrow. As some of you might know, there will be no tasks given to the candidates except to promote themselves and the elections.
Further to that, there will be an internal assessment interview by the newly elected SRC for the new candidates on 12/04/2011 evening.

Thank you very much for your time everyone.

Cheers,
Nestor
