Mid-sem Break Approaching!

With the mid-sem break literally just around the corner,
i'm sure lots of you are psyched about the 1 week break to
either spend more time with family, go back 'home', catch
up on studies, or just hang out and sleep in because there are
no morning classes, etc. :-) However, the updates will still
be continually posted as they come so do remember to check
out the blog regularly so that you won't miss out on any news.
Here are some updates b4 the break starts:-

1. Stethoscopes

First of all, I would like to apologize for the last minute, unwarned
change of the stethoscope distribution (which was supposed to take
place Wednesday). However, due to a last minute change of decision
we decided the distribution would be best conducted on Thursday
instead because most would not be attending Wednesday's lectures.
So yes, as of now, the distribution shall take place Thursday, right
after lectures. A representative from Littman will come over to
speak with us about how to take care and how to use our stethoscopes.
I will announce it once again after lectures. :-)

2. Inauguration

SRC 09/10 will officially inaugurated on Monday, 4th of May at 12.30 PM - 1.30 PM at Auditorium A.

Everyone is invited.

This will be a great time to get to know who will be representing you for the incoming year!

- Zia (SRC President-elect)

3. Canteen Feedback

We will be having a Canteen Committee meeting pretty soon and I have heard that there are already some concerns about the canteen from the students.

So please get some feedback from your batchmates on the canteen and pass it up to me by saturday, 2nd May.

It would be highly appreciated if the comments included both the positive and the negative, because if they are doing something right we also do want to let them know to make sure they keep on doing it.

Alternatively, I have created a small poll on IMU Campus for everyone to comment on, or they can email their comments directly to imusrc@gmail.com with the subject being "Canteen".

- Zia (SRC President-elect)

4. IMU Cup Committee

More Updates!

Listed below are some of the latest updates, please take the
time to read through properly for any that may concern with
you or that you may want to get involved with. I did notice
that there are several that regularly visit this blog for updates
- so for those that do please spread around to other fellow
batchmates about this blog. It's good if we are able to make
this blog an efficient vehicle for news dispersion throughout
our blog. The reason for this is because:-

1. Updates are often sent to us via email on weekends.
2. There are simply too many announcements to be made
some times. If we were to stand in front of the batch
and make the long list of announcements - there is no longer
a purpose for the 15 min 'break'.

Despite the situation, your respective batchreps will continue
to make announcements for at least the important news that
needs to be made obvious to you all.

Thanks for the cooperation:-
:-)

LATEST UPDATES:-

placed dead centre in the middle of Atrium. Listed are the
names and the IMU Cup houses which they belong to.

houses will be on the 23rd of April from 7pm to 10pm.

2. For those that notice their information/details are incorrect
and those that do not have their names in the lists for
some reason - please go to SRC (at the new student lounge)
and inform SRC members or send an email to:-
imusrc@gmail.com to rectify the discrepancy.

--------------------------------------------------------

Upcoming Talks

1. Alumni Talk by
There will be an Alumni Talk come Wednesday 22 April 2009, 12 - 1pm at SR3. The speaker is Chin Yen Ming from M102, graduated from Seremban Clinical School in 2007 and is currently a Medical Officer in Perak. Students who are going to Seremban or who intend to work in Malaysia are recommended to attend the talk. The speaker has also asked if there are any topics in particular that the students are interested to know. Please pass the questions you would like to ask the speaker to your batchreps by Tuesday 21 April 2009. Thanks.

2. Students' Choice Awards
Students' Choice Award will be held on 23 April 2009, Thursday, from 12-1pm in the Auditorium. The event is organized in appreciation and recognition of all the effort that have been poured in by the lecturers in educating the students. The results would be based on the votings done by all the students in IMU, from the survey forms that were handed out. Refreshments will be served at the end of the event.
--------------------------------------------------------

Arm Wrestling Competition

I know what you're thinking, "ARM WRESTLING
COMPETITION?!" But, it's not just for the body
builders of IMU - it's an interesting event for fun.
So do give it a shot. Below are the details from Arthur
(IMU Gym & Fitness Club President).

As part of our semesterly activities, the IMU Gym & Fitness Club will be holding an Arm Wrestling Competition on the 27th, and if there are enough participants, the 28th of April. As such, I'd like to ask for your assistance in spreading the word of our activity by putting it on your blog, or email or anything that you use to commune with your batch =)

Both men and women can compete in the competition, with three weight classes for men:
Below 60kg
Between 60kg and 80kg
Above 80kg

And two weight classes for women (variable)
Below 55kg
Above 55kg

For each category there is a prize of 50RM for the ultimate winner. The competition will be a knockout, tournament based style-esque competition and everyone (except lecturers) is invited to join! The joining fee for the competition will be 5RM per person, though members of the club are entitled to a 2RM discount to reduce the price to 3RM.

We will be setting up a table in the atrium from the 20th of April to the 24th of April for anyone interested in the competition, where we can answer any questions, and sign up anyone who is interested in joining this highly lucrative competition.

- Arthur

The SRC Secretary Post

The secretary of the incoming council (SRC 09/10), Natasha Ng, has decided to step down due to personal and academic reasons.

Both the current and the incoming council have decided that Nirmal Randhawa would be a more than suitable candidate to take up the position as not only was her performance during apprenticeship week and Hustings commendable, but as the difference in the votes was also quite small, we felt she was someone the student body also had confidence in. We have spoken to her and she has agreed to take the position if need be.

However, if there are any people who would like to step up for the position as well now is the time! The deadline will be April 22nd (Wednesday) at 9.00 AM.

The potential candidates will have to go through a week of apprenticeship (27th to 30th May) under me and an executive interview. This is so the process can be dealt with before the inauguration (May 4th).

Please do note that the position of the secretary is essentially the "right hand" of the president. I have attached the Standard Operating Procedure for the Secretary for your reference.

If there are no contestants we will appoint Nirmal as the secretary immediately on Wednesday itself.

Zia Shah
(Incoming SRC President)

London Student Journal of Medicine (LSJM)

"Dear Professor Malik,

I hope you don't mind me contacting you directly. I
got your email address from ex-students of IMU
who recommended that you would be the best person
to contact regarding this matter.

My name is Jasmin Lee, and I'm currently studying
in University College London and am writing to you
on behalf of a community of medical students
under the auspices of University of London who will
be launching a new student-run journal titled the
London Student Journal of Medicine (LSJM). We
are planning to launch our first issue in April 2009,
and so far our call for student-authored submissions
comprising essays, original research and
interesting articles has been well-received.

However we are most keen to engage our peers
abroad and collaborate with medical schools overseas,
and it is my hope that you would look favourably
on our project and encourage your own medical
students to write for us. I attach a full letter and
poster which will hopefully be more informative
and I hope that the poster can be used to advertise
for authors in your medical school. I should be
happy to answer any queries or concerns which you
may like to clarify before getting involved with our project.

Best regards.

Notepads

Hey there every1!

**Important**
-------------------------------------------
I want to announce for the final time on the
batch blog, that all those who have yet to return
to me the notepads and/or $$ associated with
the sales of the notepads to come and find me
either between lectures or after to hand it to
me.

The IMU ball committee needs to finalise all
sales by 2mrw (THURSDAY, APRIL 8th).
I would greatly appreciate the cooperation,
I have the names of those yet to pass to me
and I will start to look for them personally 2mrw.
However, it does make it much more convenient
so thanks!
-------------------------------------------

Aside from that main announcement I wanted
to post up several club meetings for 2mrw that
some of you have joined:-

1. CF (Cell group) at 12.00PM - PBL 23
2. Chinese Culture Society welcoming
party at 12.30PM - 1.30PM - SR1.

-------------------------------------------

Also, today was the first day of the Oral Health
Care campaign (as most of you may already know).
The stations were informative, the station masters
were friendly, obvious that lots of effort was put
into the event and the sketch by DT109 was entertaining.
All in all, I hope every1 will take some time out 2mrw
and go spend a bit of time checking out the booths.
Support our fellow DT109 batchmates, they've worked
hard and deserve it. :-)

That's all for now.

IMU Ball 2009

Hello ME/DT109!

Hope every1's weekend is going well.. alright well a small update
for this weekend. The president of IMU Ball 2009, Kher Lik
emailed me and wanted me to post up the particulars for the Ball
for those that may be interested. :-) So, here's the email he
sent:-

---------------------------------------------------
Dear ME/DT109,

This post is regarding the IMU Ball 2009. We, the seniors from Sem 4 and Sem 5, sincerely invite the Sem 1 juniors to come to the ball and celebrate the enchanted night with us. Below are the details of the Ball:

Event Title - Claire De Lune (A night of enchantment)
Venue - Marriott Putrajaya (5-star hotel)
Date - 19th April 2009 (Sunday)
Time - 6.30pm till 12.00 am
Ticket price - RM 120

For the price of RM 120, you'll be getting a 5-course Western meal in a 5-star hotel with 5-star services. Moreover, we are going to have an MOS DJ (DJ Nesh) for our dance floor party as well as experienced emcees to host our event. The events for the night have been specially arranged (breakdance, ballroom dance, latin dance, hip hop, singing & fashion show) and well prepared for the participants of IMU Ball 2009. Hence, satisfaction 100% guaranteed!!

Please do not get influenced by others that the ball is only for the graduating seniors. Yes, it is orgnanised by the graduating seniors but it is for all students of IMU so that we can all gather in one glamorous night and celebrate the fact that we are proud students of IMU. It's an annual dinner specially prepared for all students of IMU.

Yes, it is very true that all of you will have your own ball during your final year in IMU. However, I can ensure you that the ball for each year will be totally different. I believe some of you are really interested in proms and dressing up elegantly, right? =D Moreover, all of you are in sem 1 which all of you have the most free time to spend. In Sem 3, most of you will be really busy with exams that you won't have time to bother about all these and in sem 5, majority of you will be studying really hard for EOS 5 and will not be willing to spend time on balls. So, do think about it.

Our batch, M107, have at least 5 tables and above for every ball since 2007. So, if you have the reasons as we did (which is celebrating a night with those seniors that you love and appreciate who will be leaving soon), come to our booth just right in front of CSU (our notice board is there too!) and purchase your tickets/to obtain more information. Open from 10.30 - 2.00 pm everyday. Unfortunately, the ticket sales will end this Thursday (09/04/09). So, hurry up and decide! ^^

For those for are staying in Vista, no worries! The ball committee is going to rent a comfortable coach to travel from IMU Bukit Jalil to Putrajaya (to and fro) with no charges.

---------------------------------------------------

(For those that love formal events, do consider!)

:-)
---------------------------------------------
Also another upcoming event for ISOW:-

Greetings! There are many things we never want to say goodbye to. Friends, relatives, you name it! However, when it comes to, lets call it issues of a skin-ish nature, we're more than willing to wave our hands and turn our backs. Well, to aid you in your cause, Clinique is organizing a workshop to cure what ails you! Say hello to great skin by signing up for the aforementioned workshop. And hey, even if you already do have great skin, receiving RM200 worth of free gifts can't hurt right?

so. do come!!!

9th of April at LT2 from 10.30am - 1.30pm

& grab a few friends along...after all, the more the merrier! =)

- Yi Wen (President of ISOW)

--------------------------------------------

Also, one last thing before I sign off for the night. Dental
students have put a great deal of effort into the upcoming
Oral Health Week. Let's give them our full 100% support.

ME/DT 109 Rocks!

- Eldwin

Oral Health Week : Just Smile :)

8th and 9th April [wednesday & thursday]
from 11.00am - 2.30pm
at the Atrium

There will be game stations [dont worry, its nothing like orientation game stations, youll be clean!], performances, free stuff and prizes :)

Come and support your dental friends! and help make oral health week a success!

special thanks to the cameraman Azri, editor Rezzuan, actor/actresses Candice, Alex, Joshua, Ji Min, Sam, Henry [EMO bookstore guy], Jie Xun, Pei Jie, Navin and Kelvin.

April Fools!

It wasn't even 11AM yet, and a few friends have
already tried to pull an April Fools joke on me.
Better luck next time..:-P

Jokes aside, below is a summary of the important
announcements made (inclusive of today and
yesterday).

----------------------------------------------
1. Stethoscopes

Money collection for the purchase of the Littman
Stethoscopes have officially begun starting today.
The deadline for money collection is next Monday.
I know some may be very busy throughout the
entire week and there are also those that go back
home on the weekends, so I hope by extending the
deadline until after the weekend it will make things
more convenient for some of you all.

Littman Stethoscope:-
Place of Purchase: Emo Bookstore
Price: RM230 (discounted price)
Colour: A choice of 11 colours, please go to Emo
Bookstore to check out the samples they
have put up on display.
Personalization: Max. 13 characters (including spacings)

2. Notepad Collection

The deadline for the notepad collection is this Friday.
To all PBL Notepad reps which I distributed the notepads
to please return the notepads and/or $$ by the deadline.
Also, Notepad reps please ensure the condition of the
returned notepads are still in a condition that is capable of
being resold. You have the right to ask the person to pay
if it is returned in unsatisfactory condition. Thank you to
several of the notepad reps who have been extremely
'graceful' in handling this situation. Some actually forked
over their own money to cover for lost notepads within their
groups. It was unnecessary but greatly appreciated. :-)

3. Academic Council (to ME students only)

For those who are still unclear of what the AC is all about,
let me briefly explain it to you here. The AC is for those
of you who are interested in voicing out your opinion on
the way things are currently being run here at IMU. It
can range anything from academic curriculum, lecturers
to even the inefficient cafeteria service (if it may apply).
In a nutshell, it is for those who not only know how to
make complaints, but those that also know how to come
up with suggestions to solve the complaints. The spots
on the AC is limited about 10 - 15 and so the fairest way
I can think of to fill these spots is to carry out a 'first-come,
first serve basis.' Anyways, for those interested come see
either Chelsea or myself.

As for DT students, there is a separate AC altogether
especially for dental students. As for how that is being
handled please refer to Vincent or Carmen for further
clarification (if needed). Thx!

4. Red & Black Thursday

I would first like to clarify this announcement which I just
made this morning. The idea of a 'dress code' 2mrw is not
in any way a campaign activity for one of the candidates.
There was a slight misunderstanding there. In any case,
I would like to say both candidates are fully capable of the
post in which they are contending for. I shall stop here
as this blog is meant to be an unbiased zone. :-)

With that clarified, the basic idea of this is that we as a
batch or at least most of us all follow a specific dress code
for just one day. The idea came from some of our batch
mates as well as seniors. So, it will be kind of interesting
to see the correlation of dressing patterns across our
entire batch 2mrw (if this activity is successful). Anyways,

Boys - Black
Girls - Red

It doesn't need to be completely one colour. Something that
resembles it will be more than enough.
----------------------------------------------

Those are the announcements today, have a great

April Fool's Day!
