More BOOKs...

Hey guys!

To those who are going to Seremban in particular, Joe has taken the effort to get a list of books tt would b necessary/useful for our clinical..the list is as below:

EMO:

  1. Davidson's --> RM65
  2. Kumar & Clark --> RM93
  3. Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine --> RM79
  4. Oxford Handbook of Clinical Specialties --> RM70
  5. Davidson's handbook --> RM40
  6. Bailey and Love Surgery --> RM170
  7. Burkitt's Essentail Surgery (problems, diagnosis and management) --> RM110
  8. Browse's (symptoms and signs of surgical disease) --> RM70

KAMAL:

  1. Davidson's --> RM99
  2. Kumar & Clark --> RM99
  3. Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine --> RM55
  4. Davidson's handbook --> RM75
  5. Bailey and Love Surgery --> RM155
  6. Burkitt's Essentail Surgery (problems, diagnosis and management) -->RM95
  7. Browse's (symptoms and signs of surgical disease) --> RM50

So the books that are in BOLD are the cheaper ones (compared to the other place)... But I personally prefer books from EMO bcs i have VERY BAD experiences buying from Kamal (books worn out very fast). Anyone else has met with similar problems?? Anyways u guys can think abt it and I will probably collect money and place down orders first day in seremban!

Don't know which to choose? basically seniors would recommend to get:

  1. Kumar&Clark or Davidson's (this will be our go to book for the whole internal med rotation whn we need to read up on something)
  2. OHCM or Davidson's handbook (for quick reference during ward rounds! u won't go wrong getting OHCM but we got a very good deal for the Davidson's handbook n its a really good book as well!)
  3. Bailey's is recommended for surgery rounds (famous surgical book, wont go wrong getting it!). No 6&7 was recommended by Henry from EMO (he says a lot of seniors come to get those books as well).
-JOE-

To those who are off to Seremban:

1.if u need a labcoat u can FB msg Joe ur size ASAP as he will be going there soon to make the
purchase

2.have u signed in our FB group yet? If not please do so at : http://www.facebook.com/groups/183624611693159/

anyways enjoy ur remaining holidays n see u peeps in seremban..

Loves,
Geena...

Library Hours Extended

Dear students of IMU,

As per your requests, the SRC and the Library dept. are glad to inform you that with effective from 1st August ‘2011 the IMU Library Collaborative Study Area (CSA) will be open till 12:00 a.m. on weekdays.
However, we still have to cross a few bumps before we can make it permanent. Yes, everyone, it’s still temporary and on a TRIAL period till the25th of august ‘2011. If we are able to follow the criteria given to us by the Library dept. till the end of the trial period, then of course the library CSA will continue to be open till 12:00 a.m.
The criteria are as listed below:

1) All books are to be returned by 10 pm
2) No borrowing of books after 10 pm
3) No books or MMS models should be misplaced or damaged during the trial period
4) A minimum of 20 students on average should be present in the CSA.
5) Last but not least, the most important issue:
Students should walk safely while walking back to Vista or their cars after 12:00 am
and should not get mugged on the way during the trial period.

If any of these 5 Criteria are breached or not fulfilled (especially the last 3), then the whole thing is KAPUT!! In other words, library CSA will only be open till 10 p.m., we will never be given a chance to increase library operation hours in the future ever again.
Furthermore, the QSA and MMS section will be closed after 10 p.m. and only 2 part-time student librarians and a security guard will be overseeing the library till midnight after 10 p.m.
The Reserve Collection Area will be out of bounds during the time 10 – 12 also.

So, students of IMU, the SRC has once again listened to your concerns and have acted upon them. This time, it is up to you to keep this newly granted opportunity and to not mess it up in anyway, if you would like the library CSA to be open till 12:00 a.m. on weekdays.
Also I would like to stress on the importance on student safety once they leave the library at midnight, since that is the main reason the library dept. is concerned about. Please try to travel in packs or groups. Guys I need not remind you, now’s the chance to jump in and walk those pretty ladies off to safety :P.

Anyways, thank you for your support extended to us in this matter and with your help I believe that in the near future we can make more exceptional changes to the library to benefit your needs. Your SRC president, Simran Singh will be visiting most of the batches to announce more details regarding this matter.
Thank you and have a great time everyone!

SRC Secretary

Batch Rep Resignation

Greetings fellow batchmates! :)

Wow, can't believe that holidays are already half over! I do hope everyone is getting the time that they always wanted to sleep in, exercise, laze around, catch up on TV series, etc. to just rejuvenate after one hell of a semester 5. So, let's return back to my initial purpose of writing this post.

Official Resignation

I have already announced it on the Seremban Clinical School batch facebook group, but this is to just officialize it; also I found some parts of my post would also be directed to those PMS-ing thus hope you will bear with my "formality". :P But, I have nominated Joe and Teegeena as this batch's future batch reps (male and female respectively) and so far I have not heard any negative comments about it. Thus, I will proceed on with slowly transferring over responsibilities to the elected to make the transition as smooth as possible. However, I also maintain my word that nominations are still open so those that would want the job for any reason, feel free to voice out. If this happens, I will immediately start a voting process and the one with the most votes will participate in my hand-over immediately following thereafter. Otherwise, I presume the batch has no other willing bodies and shall congratulate Joe and Geena on August 1st 2011 when they are officially the "go-to people" for everything that you would normally address to the batch reps. I hear-by, formally declare my resignation as batch rep. (:

The Reason

It was a hard decision to come to, trust me. The thought was in my mind since the end of semester 4, but I decided to hang on for the final semester for pre-clinical as things were starting to get really busy with Convo Mag, Mock PMS Matching, etc. I felt that it would be wrong to just leave in the midst of so many things going on and knowing probably no one would want the job seeing it is semester 5 and all. :P So, what finally brought me to do it was because this halfway mark through medical school helped me come to the realization that I do want to move on from this job and try something different. It has been my utmost pleasure to be able to serve every one of you but quite honestly i'm very tired from the job. It seems to be quite easy from the outside to many, but there are many things behind the scenes faced that fails to ever see light. I think that I have tried my very best to do what I was supposed to do and came to the conclusion it is time to let others have this chance to grow from such an experience as I have grown from it. It was very tough to let go, but I hope being batch rep doesn't define who I am to you all. I hope over the 2.5 years you have gotten to know me a bit better than just "he is our batch rep!" because I did try to go beyond by duties several times to let you all know a bit about me personally. :)

Words of Gratitude

I want to express many thanks to you all for allowing me to be your batch representative for the past 2.5 years. I have never once taken for granted all the support and positive encouragement you have given to me over the years and it was one of the reasons I was able to carry on doing what the batch needed every time. It has been a good growing experience and it was only made possible because of the very people that constituted this batch. I know this sounds slightly tacky, but I can say i mean ever word of it as i have never really been know for my semantics anyways. :P It has been so awesome to meet most of the batch and know all of you (I apologize for those I never got to know) but you all definitely made our batch one of the more colourful batches. That is one of the things I will remember about this batch for sure and I apologize if I have ever offended anyone along the duration of my tenure or come short of my responsibilities. I have given my best foot forward and thanks to all of you for making my job easier with your cooperation all this while. I could not have been asked to represent a better batch of people. :)

Do enjoy the holidays well and all the best for those going overseas for PMS and for those that are going to Seremban - see you all there! :)

Your "neighborhood batch rep",
Eldwin
